CBS Sunday Morning had an article and matching video about book covers this past weekend. It covered everything from the process of choosing a cover and interviews with several designers to the history and future of covers, from wooden protection to decorative marketing to e-books. For me, the most interesting part of the piece was the interview with Toni Boyette, a shopper at a Washington D.C. bookstore. She states that when shopping for books, about 50% of her purchases are a result of the cover pulling her in. Hearing that kind of number always makes me think about what my percentage would be.
