Buenos Aires, Argentina has been named World Book Capitol for 2011 by UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. In honor of this event, artist Marta Minujín has constructed a seven story replica of the Tower of Babel out of books. It stands 82 feet high, includes music composed by Minujín while inside, and consists of 30,000 books in a variety of languages donated from all over the world. The tower will remain until May 28th, at which point visitors will be allowed to take books home, with the remains being used to form the initial collection of Argentina’s first multilingual library.
