The celebrations have begun for the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, that defining event of 19th century America. There is a deluge of information available on the topic but technology is providing it’s 21st century spin. The New York Times has started a blog called Disunion that includes daily entries taken from the period with pictures, diaries, and historical commentary. There are some amazing websites such as this one from Virginia and this one from the Civil War Preservation Trust. The Washington Post is engaged in a big way and included a gallery of photographs newly donated to the Library of Congress.
The war began on April 12, 1861 so there are many months ahead to watch how America deals with the anniversary this time around.
